Chiel of the Netherlands provided some great pictures of a rifle that he is restoring. Thank you Chiel! If anyone has any information on this rifle or its markings please let us know.

Chiel, a war debri collector in the 80's specialized in Verdun 1916 and Yper 1914-1915 found many rifles like Lebel, Gew98 and Berthiers. In 1982 he found in Liege (luik) something else....a strange weapon with a tube around the barrel. This rifle was broken in two (shell) and the receiver, trigger, triggerplate and bolt were gone. The rifle was lost during the August 1914 battles around Liege.

"I don't know if it was used by the Belgium or German army. But one thing was sure, I was hooked. And I had to find a complete rifle for my collection. So after 19 years I found the Gew88 in the Netherlands for only $ 90,00 what is a bargain."

Visible in picture at left and under the rifle a metal block, this block was in place of the original loading system as some guide for the cartridges. But this
block was to narrow to put cartridges in it. So it looks like a failed try
to make this rifle a 88/14.

His rifle has no manufacture or regimental marks. On receiver is only the number 608 and the large S.

What is this marking on the bolt???
